Being spontaneous!

Hello Partners, Friends and Family!

It’s both wonderful and exciting to be writing to you again.
Over the past few weeks I’ve been adjusting to the small town life! What can I say, Heidelberg is a wonderful place to be, I’m enjoy it and blessed because it is the place where I need to be right now. The place God has for me and to learn from now.

Today I would like to share with you what it’s been like living in Heidelberg and what it’s like to overcome a fear that I’ve had and a goal I’ve set coming here.

Coming from the city, a busy home and a busy schedule, I’ve always been very task orientated,  always being the busy bee.
Even in my 1st and 2nd year in college, I would be at college from 9:00-13:00 and then I would quickly drive to work where I will run around and manage things. I would then continue to do any homework or personal things in the evenings. Don’t get me wrong I loved it, but even in those busy  times I would burn out, not sleep enough and just over all not get to spend enough time in the Word as I would have like.

I’ve always been more of a Martha than a Mary. To one degree I was scared of not being busy, not having anything to do. I felt guilty to take a nap in the afternoons or just sit and not do anything.
As I went thru Bible College I realised being a Martha and so task oriented was not always a good thing.
Here is the story about Mary and Martha:
Luke 10:38-42
Now it came to pass, as they went, that he (Jesus) entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 39 And she has a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.
40 But Martha was cumbered (distracted) about much serving and came to him and said, Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha you are careful (worried) and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needful: and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
In brackets mine.

So the thing is Martha was so busy doing the Work of/for the Lord, that she forget the Lord of the Work! She got so busy trying to serve Jesus that she totally missed the point. She was doing the right thing at the wrong time.
Jesus was sitting in her house teaching, teaching once in a lifetime things and she was running around.
Mary on the other hand she knew what was truly important. She knew that having a relationship with God is more important than running around serving.

This is why when we read in Matthew 26:6-13 and in John 12:1-11 we read that Mary poured anointing ointment over Jesus. Jesus said She did it for my burial
By resting at the feet of Jesus she received revelation that he would die and be resurrected and in those days when you were buried they would first “preserve” your body with oils. But Mary knew Jesus would raise again and therefore she anointed Jesus with the oil beforehand.

When I received this revelation that having a personal relationship with God is more important that running around serving God, and doing things for Him.
He wants you to come sit at His feet, He wants to talk to you, teach you and then from that overflow of that relationship serving and manifesting Jesus to others will come naturally.

What happens when you are to busy? You have the tendency to forget things, so I had a schedule I had my whole day, weeks and months planned out ahead!
What is wrong with overdoing schedules? There is no room for spontaneity! You are to busy to stop and help the mother struggling with her little children, you are to focused on your tasks to see the old lady struggling to get in the door. You don’t have time to stop and listen to the person crying on the bench as you walk past.
Everything is good in balance but once it gets to much - that’s when the problems come in.

This year I set out on a goal to be more spontaneous, leaving room for God to show me more of Himself. Both in nature and in people!

I have to say it’s not been all that easy, but I’ve been able to wake up on a Saturday morning and not know what to do. But to my pleasant surprise it turns out to be an amazing blessed day.

One Saturday morning a friend and I drove to George to the Farmers Market
I had so much fun walking around and admiring all the beautiful things (and of course food!)

We also stopped at Harold’s Bay on our way back to to take some photos of the beautiful beach.

How beautiful is God’s creation!

Speaking of being spontaneous, as we came to a split in the road we decided in the moment to turn the other way and headed to the RedBerry farm not far from there!

Another weekend we visited a friend who lives in L’Agulhas the Southern most town of Africa

I had some fun just relaxing and taking photos of God’s beautiful creation!

What would the beach be without ice-cream!

3rd year college has been amazing too!

We as 3rd years have been on some local outreaches with the 2nd year students.

Ministering at schools as well as one-on-one discipleship with the children.

Also preaching “early bird”

and communion at college.

We also had a Team Building Camping weekend! What an experience that has been too!

Camping (in my own tent luckily) with my 5 guy class mates is quite interesting - I did put them to good use when the bugs, spiders and frogs showed up though! ;)

That is me for this time! I hope you enjoy a little peak into my live here in Heidelberg.
I would also like to thank you for your continual support both financially and in prayer, it really means and helps a lot!

Much Love
