Hello friends, family and partners!
Over the course of the next few weeks I will be posting on my life at college, as well as some revelations I received during the past two years!
Today I would like to share a topic with you that really changed my life, my opinion of God, the way I relate to God and to people.
Today I would like to write on the True Nature of God, God’s kind of love.
1 John 4:8 says:
“He that loves not knows not God, for God is love.”
This verse tells us that God is Love - this love is translated in the Greek as Agapē
First of all what is God’s Love? God’s love is interpreted as Agapē
Definition for this love:
This love keeps on loving even when the loved one is unresponsive, unkind, unlovable, and unworthy. It is unconditional love.
Agapē desires only the good of the one loved. It is a consuming passion for the well-being of others.
This made me think, what does the Word Unconditional mean?
The person doing or giving it does not require anything to be done by other people in exchange.
Unquestioning, unqualified, unreserved, unlimited, wholehearted, downright, complet, full and absolute!
This word Agapē is used approximately 320 time in the New Testament alone!
Some examples of this would be
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you, continue you in My love.
John 15:9
And Walk in Love, as Christ also had loved us, and had given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savour.
Eph 5:2
So who can receive this Agapē Love?
But God commends His Love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us!
Romans 5:8
I have wonderful news for you today! God is not mad at you, God is not withholding His love from you. This verse in Romans says that while we were yet sinners - God so loved you that He sent Jesus to die on the cross for you!
He loves you! Right now - no matter how messed up, terrible or chaotic your life is. He loves and cares for you right now!
David wrote in Psalm 86:15
O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness…
Jesus said in Revelation 22:7,12 and 20
I come quickly
and how many of you know it’s been 2 000 years and Jesus has not come yet. If that is God’s quickly… how slow is His slow?
You cannot live long enough to make God angry at you!!
David who wrote this Psalms really understood God’s love for him!
He had committed adultery, he committed murder to covered it up. Yet he called God merciful and gracious.
He understood God’s love for him, he was a man after God’s own heart - why? Because he kept going back to God, he kept seeking God even after these failures.
You can’t do anything to make God stop loving you, likewise you can’t do anything for Him to love you more! He loved you when you were a sinner, he loved you before the foundation of the world! This brings me to my next point:
When did God start loving people?
According as He has chosen us In Him before the foundation of the World, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in Love
Eph 1:4
You have been chosen in Him - that before the foundations of the World God have loved you!
There is no sin in the World, that is to big for God!
The only way you can go to hell is by not believing on Jesus Christ! Your sins are all forgotten, past, present and future - Jesus paid for all of them on the cross!
Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, cursed is everyone that hangs on a tree.
That the blessings of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ, that we might received the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Galatians 3:13-14
We are no longer under any curses! We are the blessed of the Lord - Jesus paid such a big price for our sins - how can we not except this gift, this blessing!
You might sit here and wonder: Why? Why would God do this?
Because Agape LOVE. Because He loved you so unconditionally
For God so loved the world that He gave His Only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our Faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set doen at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2
You were that joy set before Jesus! Thinking about you, how much He loved you and having the opportunity to spend eternity with you in heaven, endured the pain and shame of the cross!
The Verse I want to end this off with is John 13:34
A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
God loved you first, He gave to you first!
To love other people, know that God loves you in all your ways, flaws and all! Because you have this Love in you, you can love others with this love God has given you first!
It’s an overflow - when you put a cup of water in the sink and open the tap, the cup will fill up and then overflow into the sink! God is the tap, the water pouring out His love, you are the cup, when you fill up with His love, love starts to overflow out of you!
Much Love and Blessings
